CONFISCATED SOUVENIRS

2012

This series was photographed in Le Havre, France, in storage rooms, where the customs store confiscated souvenirs that tourists entering Le Havre (mostly by boat) brought with them from “exotic” destinations.
These items were confiscated in accordance with the The Washington Convention law. The Washington Convention, also known as CITES – the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, is an agreement intended to protect endangered species of wild fauna and flora by regulating international trade in the wildlife.

The photo series documents these odd souvenirs made from wild life such as tortoise shells, baby alligators, baboon heads, reef shells, cobra snakes
